At Agincourt school we view literacy as an essential life skill in which our children learn to apply their language skills confidently and competently in both the classroom and everyday contexts. Literacy skills, knowledge and understanding are taught not only in English language lessons but in all areas of the curriculum. We aim to develop each child’s abilities within an integrated programme of phonics, speaking and listening, reading and writing. As a rule our Year 2 children’s reading, spelling and writing levels are well above the national average.
