Bird Week

How far can an owl see? How fast can a falcon dive? What is in an owl pellet?

These were just some of the questions answered during Bird Week at Agincourt School. The children had the opportunity to see seven different birds of prey at close quarters. The beautiful Eurasian Eagle Owl was eagerly held by many of the children. He posed for photographs and then flapped silently back onto his perch.

Many different activities took place during the week. Mr Collins from the RSPB dissected owl pellets to reveal the main diet of owls. The appearance of the small mammal bones in the pellets fascinated the children. Time was spent outside bird spotting, listening to different bird songs and making bird nests. Juicy bird cakes were made in abundance to feed the birds at school and home.

The whole week inspired wonderful art work and both factual and creative pieces of writing.
