The children had enormous fun coming in as Willy Wonka, the BFG, Alice in Wonderland and many many more. The staff also took their characters seriously – a fabulous Cruella Deville, Bert from Mary Poppins and even Percy the Parkkeeper made their way into school.’

Eight pupils from Agincourt enjoyed a great day of chess at the Wales Megafinal of the UK Chess Challenge in Swansea on May 9th. Playing six games the target was to win at least four – to enable qualification for the British Gigafinal in Manchester in July 2009. Taking on the best Welsh youngsters in their age group three from Agincourt made it to the Gigafinal, with the other five close behind. In the Girls’ section Tuesday won the trophy, while in the Boys’ event Joseph came 2nd, with Zu also qualifying.
Teacher Mr.Thomas said today: “These are all sharp cookies & I expected some good results, but they have gone way beyond my expectations. The UK Chess Challenge, with more than 75,000 entrants, is now the largest chess tournament in the world. The three who go on to the Gigafinal will be competing against the best of British players, & I’m sure they will rise to the occasion. Well done all eight from Agincourt!”
