School Life

Agincourt offers an outstanding education for children from 3 - 7 years.  It aims to provide a foundation for continuing educational achievement, whist ensuring that children start to build personal qualities of confidence, self-reliance and respect for others.

Agincourt  Nursery

The Nursery Department is for 3 - 4 year olds, with the flexibility to offer morning, afternoon or all day sessions.  The minimum attendance requirement is four sessions per week.  Children are introduced to early years education in a warm, caring environment.  They will experience a curriculum that encompasses all areas of a young child’s development.  Morning sessions are 9.00am to 12noon and afternoon sessions are 12.30pm to 3.30pm.  Nursery children who stay all day bring a packed lunch from home.

Agincourt School

The Infant Department for 4 - 7 year olds, opens at 8.30am and the school day starts at 9.00am, with registration and assembly.   There is a mid-morning break for play and refreshments, and a full cooked lunch is served at 12.30pm.  There is an afternoon break for play and the school day finishes at 3.30pm.  Children may be collected at any time up to 4.00pm.  There is also an after-school club from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

Literacy and numeracy are the building blocks to education.  The children follow language and mathematics schemes that are carefully structured and allow for practical activities to enhance their skills.  The skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening are taught on a daily basis using a variety of interactive methods at word, sentence and text level to ensure a solid foundation.  Children are introduced to a range of mathematical concepts, learning through problem solving, investigations and practical situations with mental maths practice part of the daily lessons.

Science, Geography, History, Art and Design, Drama, Information Technology, and Religious Education are all taught through hands-on investigations in and out of the classroom, supplemented with visiting speakers and interesting visits.  Music is an important part of everyday life and older children have the opportunity to receive private tuition from specialist teachers.  All the children enjoy PE, Games and Dance activities, and on Friday afternoons they visit Monmouth School’s swimming pool.

Homework

All school-age children are given reading to take home to reinforce what has been taught at school.  In some cases they may be asked to carry out other literacy and numeracy based activities, or an investigation to further explore a current topic.

Progress Reports

Written progress reports are provided for all children twice a year.  Parents’ evenings are held each term.  In addition, parents are invited to make an appointment to discuss their child’s progress at any time during the year.
