Class Structure

Nursery 3 - 4 years - The nursery offers morning, afternoon or all day sessions. The minimum attendance requirement is four sessions per week. Children are introduced to early years education in a warm, caring environment. They will experience a curriculum that encompasses all areas of a young child's development.

A great start to school life - Infants 4-7

Literacy and numeracy are the building blocks to education. The children follow language and mathematics schemes that are carefully structured and allow for practical activities to enhance their skills.

Literacy unites the important skills of reading and writing. Speaking and listening are also essential parts of the literacy framework. These skills are taught on a daily basis using a variety of interactive methods at word, sentence and text level to ensure a solid foundation in literacy and a happy transition into the world of reading and writing.

Mathematics - The children are introduced to a range of mathematical concepts, learning through problem solving, investigations and practical situations. Mental maths practice is also part of the daily mathematics lessons. A variety of teaching methods are used to develop mathematical skills.

Science - At Agincourt, a positive attitude is fostered towards science. The world of living things, materials and physical processes are introduced and the children's ideas are built upon. The children are encouraged to discover fascinating scientific facts through hands-on investigations in and out of the classroom. Their scientific ideas are communicated through drawings, diagrams, tables, information technology, speech and writing.

Geography is taught through studies of the immediate surroundings and local area. Children explore various aspects of human and physical geography, and enjoy the walks and field trips that form part of their teaching.

History - Our aim is to engender an enthusiastic interest in history through a wide variety of learning activities. The children participate in many exciting projects, enriched by visits to historical sites and educational workshops.

Art and Design - Agincourt provides a superb creative environment for the children. A wide range of artistic techniques is taught in the art studio including painting, pottery, clay, batik and 3-D studies. The results fill the school with vibrant displays and provide unique keepsakes.

Drama is an integral aspect of the school curriculum at Agincourt, with children taking part in role-play and drama games, and opportunities for performing in class assemblies, festivals and full drama productions.

Information Technology - The children are introduced to computers and their IT capabilities are developed through a variety of computer-based activities. Each classroom is equipped with a computer, with additional computers in the IT Suite.

Music is an important part of the school's everyday life and  children have the opportunity to receive private tuition from specialist teachers.

PE, Games and Dance - These activities are enjoyed by all and, on Friday afternoons, we visit the Monmouth School swimming pool. The sports day held each summer is a highlight of the school calendar.

Religious education is broadly Christian based with an appreciation of other faiths. Each school day begins with an assembly and we have close links with St. Peter's Church, Dixton, which is used for worship and celebrations.

Homework - All school-age children are given reading to take home to reinforce what has been taught at school. In some cases they may be asked to carry out other literacy and numeracy based activities, or an investigation to further explore a current topic.
